Michael Baboolal

(he/him/his) is a queer, Trinidadian- Canadian dance artist, choreographer and educator.

Michael is a graduate of Ryerson University (Toronto, Canada) and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts. He began dancing at 17, training and exploring at Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts.

Michael has had the privilege of performing and working with inspiring dance creators, including Guillaume Côté (Toronto), Peter Quanz (Winnipeg), Slowdanger (Pittsburgh), Hanna Kiel (Toronto), Bouchardanse (Toronto), Laida Aldaz Arrieta (Spain), Roberto Olivan (Spain), The Dietrich Group (Toronto), Cirque du Soleil (Montreal), Matjash Mrozewski (Toronto), Jeff Dimitriou (Toronto), William Yong (Toronto), and Company SBB (New York).

Currently Michael dances with Compagnie Marie Chouinard and has been apart of the North American Premiere of Radical Vitality Solos and Duets as well as the world premiere of Time for Time.

 

Michael has presented his choreographic works within the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and through the Canadian Stage. He is Eager to continue creating, presenting and fostering a healthy environment for exploration and rhythm.

Teaching experience includes workshops within the TDSB, as well as guest slots within various dance studios. He hopes to continue growing as an educator and have the opportunities to teach and choreograph for post secondary institutions within Canada and abroad.
